Terms and conditions
Written to be read. Where a term has a legal meaning we've said what it means in plain words rather than hiding it.
Placeholder legal copy for design purposes. It reflects how the product actually behaves, but it has not been reviewed by a lawyer and must be before launch.
Section 1
Who we are, and what this covers
Atlin is operated from Lisboa, Portugal. These terms cover the Atlin mobile app, any web version we release, and the tours booked through them.
By using Atlin you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app — and if something here is unacceptable to you, write to us and say so.
Section 2
What Atlin is, and is not
Atlin tells you about places using publicly available sources, chiefly Wikipedia, and shows you which passage each claim came from. It is a guide, not an authority.
Sources can be wrong, out of date, or contested, and our summaries can be imperfect. Do not rely on Atlin for anything where being wrong matters — opening hours, ticket prices, safety, accessibility or legal restrictions. Check with the place itself.
Practical information such as hours and prices comes from third parties and is shown without provenance. Treat it as a hint, not a promise.
Section 3
Your account
Signing in uses a code sent to your email. That email is the credential — anyone with access to your inbox can sign in, so keep it secure and turn on the app passcode if your phone is shared.
You are responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has used it.
Section 4
Subscriptions and payment
Free costs nothing and always will. Plus and Guide Pro are monthly subscriptions billed through Stripe, who hold your card details — we never see your card number.
A subscription renews monthly until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the month you have already paid for runs to its end. Upgrades are prorated for the days remaining. We do not offer partial refunds for unused time, but if something went genuinely wrong, write to us.
Prices are in euros and include VAT where it applies. If we change a price we will tell you at least 30 days beforehand, and the change never applies to a month you have already paid for.
Section 5
Tours booked with a guide
Guides are independent. They set the tour, the price and the meeting point; Atlin connects you and handles the payment and the live translation.
The cancellation terms for a tour are shown before you pay and on the booking itself. Free cancellation up to the stated deadline; after that the guide keeps the stated share, because they have turned other work down.
If a guide cancels, you are refunded in full. If a tour is materially not what was described, tell us and we will look into it.
Section 6
Live translation
On a live tour we translate the guide's speech into each participant's language as it is spoken. Translation is automatic and imperfect, particularly with names, jokes and technical terms.
Audio from a live tour is processed to produce the translation and is not kept afterwards. Questions you submit are visible to the guide and to other participants on that tour.
Section 7
Your content and your data
Your journal, trips, questions and tastes belong to you. We use them to run the app and to make the guide fit you better, and we do not sell them.
You can export everything or delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes your journal, trips, questions and tastes, cancels your subscription, and leaves any tour you have already paid for valid with the guide. There is a 30-day grace period, after which it is irreversible.
Section 8
Fair use
Do not scrape the app, resell its output as your own product, or use it to harass a guide or another traveller. On a live tour, the question limits exist so one person cannot take over the group.
We may suspend an account that does these things. If we do, we will tell you why.
Section 9
Liability, and the honest limits of it
We are responsible for Atlin working as described. We are not responsible for what happens on your walk — where you go, what you climb, or what you eat is yours.
Where the law allows us to limit liability, our total liability to you is capped at what you have paid us in the previous twelve months. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury caused by our negligence, or fraud, because it cannot be.
These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep every right your local law gives you regardless of what this document says.
